• Micro-climate (e.g. shade from house, prevailing winds)
• Regional climatic conditions
• Mature size
• Shape (e.g. hedging, ground covers, strappy plants)
• Culinary and medicinal uses
• Maintenance requirements
• Not the least attractive features (e.g. flowers, bark, shade)
